An interesting turn of events occurred this year that taught me what I already knew. One where I was left at home (once again) with full responsibility for six ponies, three chickens, two ducks, an assortment of cats, three guinea pigs, two rabbits and a dog, whilst still doing a full day at work (including the cycle to and from work). It was pretty hectic. And it was very stressful on the Saturday when the dog chased round and round the postman's van and refused to be caught and when one of the cats bullied one of the others causing it to somehow hide under the kitchen units which meant dismantling the kitchen and waiting hours for it to come out. But after all that, once I got in my routine, it was pretty good going. Tiring, but ok. And even though I had ALL those animals to look after and myself and my day started at 5am I still managed to get to bed for 10pm and have 7 hours sleep every night. When the wife and kids were back home and I had their help again with everything I somehow went back to only getting six hours (or less!) sleep a night. Also during this time when they were away I was left with about £2.50 for my food shopping (and only that much because I found 70p in the youngest's tights(!?) when doing the washing). But incredibly I ate like a king when they were away. I baked my own bread, made enough soup for three days, baked a cake and had puddings every night. I had fruit and nut in my porridge at work. When the wife and kids were back I have not managed to have fruit and nut in my porridge since. Some nights I struggle to find enough time to read to the youngest. I always had a niggling worry this might be because of my propensity to dick about on the computer; not really dicking about, programming or writing, both of which I find a little addictive. I also wonder if this is why I get to bed too late sometimes. When my computer broke and I was without a computer for three weeks (so all I had to do was chores or read) it made absolutely no difference to the number of evenings I had enough time to read to the youngest or when I got to bed. It's not me it's all of you. ------------------------------------------------------------------- atomicules UnDeRgRoUnD gopher://gopher.atomicules.co.uk/ atomicules Overground URL:http://atomicules.co.uk ------------------------------------------------------------------- Powered by Floodgap's Bucktooth .
