atomicules UnDeRgRoUnD > Articles > Don't be a Magician --- Don't be a Magician ------------------------------------------- On stage, whether that's a literal or figurative one, magician's hold their audience captive and in awe of the mystery behind their performance. In humdrum day to day real life we're not on any kind of stage and if people can't understand what you've done or begin to comprehend how you've done it, it's still magic, but unfortunately only of the Paul Daniels variety. The knock-on effect of this is that magic trick you performed becomes expected. It appears as nothing special so there is no reason why you can't keep on doing it ad-infinitum and what's worse there is no reason for you to get any credit for it: because it didn't appear as any effort was involved in the first place. I have suffered from this at home and at work. And it is utterly miserable, as you can't rewind time and show people what was involved in the magic, to try to get them to understand, as the Magic Circle will come and get you. All you can do is wait for time to run its natural course and for that particular magic act of yours to no longer be required, thank god, so you can move on. Unfortunately, in my experience, the time frames involved can be measured in years. I don't think there are any other solutions beyond my advice not to be magician in the first place. Perhaps the answer is it's ok to be a magician as long as you don't forget to perform in the initial instance? ------------------------------------------------------------------- atomicules UnDeRgRoUnD gopher://gopher.atomicules.co.uk/ atomicules Overground URL:http://atomicules.co.uk ------------------------------------------------------------------- Powered by Floodgap's Bucktooth .
