I feel bad saying it because it coincides\* with most of our marriage and most of my youngest's life, but: those last ten years SUCKED. It was just way harder than it needed to be. If there was some weird event and the only way I could save everyone was to go back in time and relive those ten years I... couldn't; Unless it was the New Year's Eve's those have mostly been wonderful. - First decade - Mostly fun, but can't really remember anyway. - Second decade - Mostly fun, starts turning towards mostly work (In the mis-conception that hard work now pays off and you can have fun later). - Third decade - Disillusionment after MUCH hardwork tempered with debt-riddled fun though (because you promised yourself) before a rapid descent to... - Fourth decade - *shudders* The last six/seven months finally saw a turn-around though and so I'm hopeful the next ten years are going to be better, despite the downward spiral so far. Decay ----- It's also the decade where I've noticed my body start to fall apart and degrade. Sport is bad for you. My knees are not going to get any better, my collarbone will always ache, what the fuck is that?! Growing from where?! Makes you appreciate marriage and that your partner can't run away. Ha! Determined ---------- So far I've learnt (but have struggled to apply): - Work hard, but not too hard. - Remember: You are only young "once"; although that actually applies to each and every decade. - Put yourself first sometimes; More often than you think actually. - And closely linked to that: Be willing and ready to disappoint others. Even those you don't want to; Basically you have to aim to balance the disappointment - you CANNOT take it all. * - Correlation does not imply causation. ------------------------------------------------------------------- atomicules UnDeRgRoUnD gopher://gopher.atomicules.co.uk/ atomicules Overground URL:http://atomicules.co.uk ------------------------------------------------------------------- Powered by Floodgap's Bucktooth .
