THOUGHTS & UPDATES ================== [2026-04-05] ------------ Custom gpt still seems to perfrom well. It is helping me trouble shoot errors efficiently, and it certainly helping learn more commands. It talked me into learning vim. My default is nano, but it made agood case and handheld me through some inital work. That was an interesting experience. I also worked with it to create an ascii sunspot map. Originally I tried to ascii art convert some pictures, but the final product is better for text display. The GPT created the code to create the solar disc and place the sunspots. We negotiated the labeling. The speed at which I could prototype and try different rendering ideas was fast. Basically, I went from intial idea to final form in about an evening. [2026-03-30] ------------ I set up a custom gpt in ChatGPT to help me write scripts and generally setup and maintain this server. I had used Claude, but started bumping into the free version limits. With standard setup, I though Claude was better than ChatGPT, but the custom gpt seems roughly the same. I have paid account through my school for ChatGPT, so I am tyring that route for now. Custom GPT did a good job of fixing a timeout error and suggesting a few useful improvement in the Vandenberg launch data script. It also fairly effectively helped me through some networking setup and testing. [2026-03-26] ------------ Well here goes. Being miserly, I bought a VPS for a year for about $11 and a cloudflare xyz name for a buck. And here we are dabbling. I won't lie, claude.ai had been really intersting and easy to work with in setting up services and scripts. This is both an expierement and a bit of nostalgia. I remeber the fondly the text based experiences of modem based BBSs and then of the internet via the gopher protocol. At about a buck a month, I figured I have some fun and set this gopher server up and see fun I can have. Writing this in nano reminds me that I do like the modern spell check features, I have grown accustomed to.
