= 2026-09-13 Snday = Like most (is it really *most* ?) people I use WhatsApp. I'm not happy about it. I don't feel comfortable doing it. I don't like the idea that Meta and Mark Zuckerberg and his cronies are able to monitor, and infer the interpersonal connections, between myself and people I interact with. For finiancial gain. Ok... they /might/ not be able to read the contents of the messages themselves - but we've only got their word for that, and they haven't been entirely open, honest and truthful in the past. But they can map interactions. They can, will, and do use this to tailor advertising across their other platforms. I don't have a Facebook or Instagram account - but it's galling to know that even then Meta knows who I am, who my contacts are. I have work-related contacts that use it, and it makes life as freelance contractor easier if I can WhatsApp my client's engineers when I'm working and need to share information, photos etc. Most of my social circle use WhatsApp - I'm in a couple of groups with friends. The obvious alternative is to either use Signal or go eschew this form of instant messaging altogether. Use SMS or email. Or actual phone calls.... I've started the process of disentangling from WhatsApp. I've got at least one friend to join Signal and he's happy to move our 4-person WhatsApp group to Signal.... Softly Softly J
