After a major issue with my VPS running the "John's Vademecum" gopher hole I decided to start fresh with a clean install of Debian. Initially it was Debian 13.... but problems with xinetd and fingerd and "lastlog" made me angry, so I started afresh a second time with Debian 12.... Now everything is running I need to re-write parts of the Gopherhole, I didn't have a full backup of everything I'd recently added (silly me). List of things I've done so far: Install ====== tmux gophernicus fingerd xinetd tcpd rsync Configured ========== user account and sudo ssh keys for remote access into this box and out to my other boxes. gopher basic content at /srv/gopher fingerd via inetd gopher aggregator script aggregator phloglist is still a work in progress to add all the recent gopher site's I've found! Backup ====== a script calling rsync to send a backup the gopher directory to my second VPS (g4slv.info) a script on my R.Pi "server" at home to pull a backup of the gopher directory from this box to the Pi Both these run regularly via crontab. TO DO ===== Add more gopher content as I can remember what I'd recently done. Install & configure slrn alpine
