==== What's this gopherhole about? ====

I had been keeping a web-based wiki for a few years, as a place to
store my useful tips and tricks, reminders and other such trivia.

It ran using Dokuwiki and this is quite a nice wiki system. But
nobody else read it (AFAIK). I'm growing more and more reluctant to
use the WWW for personal information and posting about my hobbies.

I found Gopher last year and I'm taken with it. The simplicity of
basic text files. The ability to store (and make available for
download) any other files. The small community surrounding it.

So I've abandonned my bloated WWW wiki and moved over to Gopher
completely.

I'd been "feeding" my wiki for 4 years, so there was quite a lot of
stuff there. It's not simple to duplicate it all here. I've copied
across all the raw markup text files and media (images etc). Over
time I'll migrate some of that content into properly formatted
gopher-friendly text files. The rest will remain accessible in its
raw dokukiki-markup form in the "shed" area...

But everything new will go here, on Gopher.

==== [b|ph]logging ====

I tried a www based blog recently, first using the Blog plugin of
Dokuwiki, then using "Chyrp-lite" and then "PureBlog" and recently
back to "chyrp-lite" again. All have their good and bad points. And
even these "simple" blog platforms can make you spend more time on
appearance and visual style than on writing.

So I've decided to just use Gopher for this, too. 

I won't be phlogging often - as a separate process to writing
various pages on specific topics that can be put in their relavant
places - but from time to time I'll have something "general" to say
as a phlog post. Most of what will be here is topic-specific and
will be in one of the other areas of the gopherhole.

Onward and downward (gophers burrow downwards, no?)
