Information:
The Parallel Virtual File System is an early design of a parallel I/O for dedicated clusters of workstations, Pile-of-PCs and in particular, Beowulf workstations. PVFS provides the following: compatibility with existing binaries, ease of installation and user-controlled striping of files across nodes.
PVFS supports the UNIX I/O interface and utilizes a shared library that allows existing UNIX I/O programs to use PVFS files without recompiling. The familiar UNIX file tools (ls, cp, rm, etc.) will all operate on PVFS files and directories.
