Mcrypt is a replacement for the old UNIX crypt. It supports many more algorithms, including Blowfish, 3way, DES and SAFER.
A library is included and designed to use these algorithms and modes. It has a compatibility mode to decrypt and encrypt by way of the UNIX crypt algorithm.
