Protect your electronic mail flow against viruses with AVIRA MailGate. This intuitive configurable anti-virus solution checks both incoming and outgoing e-mails. AVIRA MailGate acts as a SMTP gateway, being able to interact with a diversity of Mail Transport Agents such as Sendmail, Postfix, Exim and Qmail. It also supports common Linux Distributions including Red Hat, SuSE, Debian, Mandrake, Fedora, Gentoo and Slackware.
AVIRA MailGate acts as a store-and-forward agent whereby the work is shared between two programs - Aigated receives the e-mails, filters them according to the IP address and places them in a specific directory. Aigatefwd is the daemon which actually reads the e-mails stored in the spool directory, decodes any attachments and then starts the virus scan. Depending on the result of the scanning process, the e-mails are blocked or forwarded to the MTA. The postmaster receives a message with a detailed report, and the sender and receiver can also be notified of the infection.
