Information:
Locus is designed to be a system administration tool. The features available through the program let you place an agent on any UNIX machine (i.e. Linux, Solaris, and AIX) and gain immediate information from and control over that host. Agent configuration determines how much information and control is available. However, Locus can be much more than just a system administration tool.
The System Management Framework nature of Locus provides flexibility for monitoring system or application performance and at the same time extend the user interface. This allows either system administrators or application developers to extend Locus and target specific host applications. The authentication aspects of Locus along with firewalls and access control lists provides the control necessary over custom extensions.
The Locus agent software can be added to any application. The application can then interact with the Locus Server and Web Application, thus providing Operations with a tool to support the corporation.
The most significant advantage that Locus supplies, in a standard release, is the ability to monitor your systems from any workstation. Using VPN, system administrators can access Locus for problem resolution. This is supported because the only software that needs to be installed on a workstation to access Locus is a Web browser.
