Information:
With the ASP Linux graphical installer, the
installation of this distribution is very simple.
You are prompted for partition information, using
either a slider, or just using the input fields to
set the partition sizes.
Network configuration is also simple. Just select DHCP or input your network configuration.
For X setup, select your graphics card and your monitor, as well as what resolution and color depth you want. Then just set back as it installs to your system.
ASP Linux contains the new KDE 2.0 Release,
rpm 4.0, glibc 2.1.92, gcc 2.96, binutils 2.10.0.18,
e2fsprogs 1.18 and the 2.2.16 kernel. Some of these
are development versions of the programs, which is
fine for me because of the testing that we do here. However, they may not be the best thing for everyone.
ASP Linux also has some of the RedHat utilities, netconf and setup, for example. These are easy-to-use,
simplifying system setup for new users, and it's nice to see them included in this distribution.
With its new installer and graphical bootloader,
ASP was simple to install and run. The graphical
bootloader even found the FreeBSD partition on the
test machine and correctly set it up to boot.
Check it out! If you want an RPM-based system that
installs easily, you will like ASP Linux.
