Instructions for Running Guiffy InstallAnywhere
on Linux
Instructions:
- Extract the downloaded guf105ins.tgz into a guiffy105 install folder: PathToguiffy105
- Open a shell and cd to PathToguiffy105
- To run the installer type: sh ./guf105ins.bin
Notes:
- You need to install a Java 1.5 (or later) virtual machine.
- Red Hat and Fedora Core Linux users Please Note: The "java" packaged with Fedora Core
and RedHat Linux isn't a "standard" Java. You need to either
1) Download and install the Java for Linux from Sun (make sure you
replace the path for SUN's Java or 2) Download the Guiffy install
package for Linux X86 with the JRE included.
- Ubuntu and Debian Linux users Please Note: The "java" packaged with Debian
and Ubuntu Linux is the GNU gij tool - which does NOT support the GUI AWT/Swing packages. You need to either
1) Download and install the Java for Linux from Sun (make sure you
replace the path for SUN's Java or 2) Download the Guiffy install
package for Linux X86 with the JRE included.
- Be sure to add the path for .../bin/java to your PATH
- Some Linux systems have a shellscript called java that runs kaffe. This
shellscript confuses Guiffy's installer. The shellsrcipt has to be renamed for
the Guiffy installer and launcher to work.
