      Aug 6 13:48:36 zircon gdm[18171]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0

The above error occurs at random when starting a program or de-iconifying a program. X shuts down and I have to re-login.

Do any errors show in log files of X server or gdm (other the the one
 mentioned)?

I did not really look through the log files.

I recently upgraded to the Aug 1 version of xorg-server and the problem
(occuring for over 4 months) suddenly disappeared.

Whatever happened in the last upgrade fixed something.

I looked through the old log files and found this:

 Fatal server error:
 Caught signal 11. Server aborting

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
          at http://wiki.X.Org
  for help.
Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional
 information.

Problem no longer exists with 6.8.2_3

 /Joe
