Mailman port should have an option to use a separate directory from the scripts to store mailing list own data, having them in /var/mailman
instead of /usr/local makes upgrade/backup easier.
>How-To-Repeat:

>Fix:
There is a --with-var-prefix in the configure that can be used to
set the directory for mutable data (the default value could be
/var/mailman for example), this will install lists, logs, locks, data, spam and qfiles directories out of /usr/local

What are maintainer's thought on this? In case it's a desirable feature,
could submitter work with maintainer on a set of tested patches?

sounds like a fine idea to me. most of how MM is currently set up in
ports I inherited, and never bothered to change :-)

I'm at OSCON in portland this week, so we can work on it when I return.
Any patches sent my way would be most welcome!
