>Description:

OS built form this morning's CVS, new kernel, rebooted, mergemastered
all this morning. Just built JDK-1.4.2 from ports and installed.
Created a symlink from the mozilla/plugins dir to the JDK plugin
library:

  /usr/X11R6/lib/mozilla/plugins:
  used 26 available 961614
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Feb 26 15:04 .
  drwxr-xr-x 10 root wheel 1536 Feb 17 23:35 ..
  lrwxr-xr-x   1 root  wheel     62 Feb 26 15:04 libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so
  -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 20480 Feb 17 19:40 libnullplugin.so

I connect over HTTPS to my work's Neoterris SSL VPN, login, and try to
get it to start an SSH session. This action requires Java, hence the
need for the plugin. It starts up, flashes a couple windows, then
dies. It leaves logs in /tmp/hs_err_pid#####.log:

An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.

Sorry, I can't provide the SSL VPN URL and certainly not my login info :-)
I could try on other Java-enhanced web sites if you want to point me
at one.

No idea, I can't tell why it's dying.

Responsible-Changed-When: Tue Mar 2 04:08:13 PST 2004
Responsible-Changed-Why:
Over to gnome@ on the _guess_ that this might be a Mozilla problem
and not just a jdk1.4 problem.

Well know, seen before, fixed. See the thread at
 http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=183044+0+/usr/local/www/db/text/2004/freebsd-java/20040125.freebsd-java

This *is* in fact a jdk14 problem, please reassign back.

Then if someone could commit my patch from above thread...

Responsible-Changed-Why:
Reassigned after receiving feedback that the problem really
does lie in the JDK.

Oddly, I poked at the applet a couple times after this, got various
failures, then it eventually worked. No changes on my end, just
returning to the same web page, clicking the same applet. Like there
were problems initializing them vm the first time then "fixed
 themselves" :-( on subsequent invocations.

Should I close the ticket? The behavior's a bit flaky, but I was able
to get beyond the initial problem -- though it's not "fixed".

State-Changed-When: Mon Jul 18 05:50:58 GMT 2005
State-Changed-Why:
It sounds like this behavior was a heisenbug that only affected one
particular revision. The original submitter had asked, at one point,
whether or not it should be closed on that basis.

In any case the PR is ancient and the versions of the ports cited in
it are long obsolete. If this problem recurs my feeling is that we
should open a new ticket, because nothing is ever going to happen on
this one.
