While having _any_ new port has its merits, please comment on the following:

 1) The ports collection on FreeBSD always tracks CURRENT, not older releases.
 2) FreeBSD already has a DES library - in libdes - and this is the DES library
that was written for SSLeay. To install it, you need to install FreeBSD's
 secure/distribution:
 (ftp://ftp.internat.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/<dist>/des/des??)
If you are running an older FreeBSD, you will need to get the most recent DES
 (from 2.2-*).
