 I think the size variation came from the recent github api changes.
 
 The DingTo/OpenShadingLanguage fork includes blender specific fixes. I
 forked from that in order to tag a specific point in time for the port
 and included the freebsd patches with it simply to keep the port
 simple. Tags in github appear to be the only way to specify a specific
 source checkout.
 
 The DingTo patches are being accepted upstream quickly so I plan to
 switch to official releases. Last month the internal version was
 updated to 1.3.0. Not sure when that will be released but I plan to
 use official release plus patches from that point.
 
 I have been using an updated version for about a week that includes
 some fixes for issues that I have come across. This version was merged
 with the imageworks branch, it is identified as v1.3.0 and would be
 considered alpha (not actually labelled as alpha) so I wasn't sure
 whether to send the update or wait for 1.3 to be tagged officially.
