    Hi,

I updated the following ports by removing them and then reinstalling:

          pkg_info -Ix cups
cups-1.5.2 Common UNIX Printing System: Metaport to
 install complete s
cups-base-1.5.2 Common UNIX Printing System: Server
cups-client-1.5.2 Common UNIX Printing System: Library cups
cups-image-1.5.2 Common UNIX Printing System: Library cupsimage
cups-pstoraster-9.0 Postscript interpreter for CUPS printing to
 non-PS printers
          gutenprint-cups-5.2.7 GutenPrint Printer Driver
          ghostscript9-9.05 Ghostscript 9.x PostScript interpreter

I had to remove all the .orig files (otherwise it complains about
empty patches) in print/cups-pstoraster, with that the files/ directory
got empty. After installing pstoraster the print failed with the "
 /usr/local/libexec/cups/filters/pstoraster failed" message. I noticed
that the pstoraster filter was set to 0644, I was not executable.
Issuing chmod 0555 to it made it executable.

I tried with three different printers:

     - HP 4250 dn
     - Xerox 6180MFP
     - Brother HL 2150n (using the HL 1270n cups ppd)

After that, printing the sample page with all of these printers
works. But if I print any larger job fails with any of those printers.
In my error-log I see things like this:

         W [14/Feb/2012:11:16:24 +0100] [Job 46] Gutenprint detected a
bad color depth (1). Output quality is degraded. Are you using psnup
 or non-ADSC PostScript?

    in my access-log I see:

        localhost - - [14/Feb/2012:11:15:51 +0100] "POST
 /printers/Poisson HTTP/1.1" 200 182406 Print-Job successful-ok

and in my page_log I see:

       Poisson gus 46 [14/Feb/2012:11:16:23 +0100] 1 1 - localhost
 ports/164293: print/cups-pstoraster failed - -
       Poisson gus 46 [14/Feb/2012:11:16:24 +0100] 2 1 - localhost
 ports/164293: print/cups-pstoraster failed - -
       Poisson gus 46 [14/Feb/2012:11:16:24 +0100] 3 1 - localhost
 ports/164293: print/cups-pstoraster failed - -

In the tray I got the first page printed, then a second blank page
(empty) and then a third page with and infamous OFFENDING COMMAND. The
exact contents of the last page is:

        ERROR:
        rangecheck
        OFFENDING COMMAND:
        .installpagedevice
        STACK:
        --nostringval--
        --nostringval--
        --nostringval--

If you need any further test or other actions which may help please
 let me know.
