LaTeX in FreeBSD ports is so horribly outdated, that it's even shame to say that we have LaTeX on FreeBSD. On other hand there is FreeBSD TeXLive project which is live and kicking.

http://code.google.com/p/freebsd-texlive/

Perhaps it's time to move forward and start using TeXLive by Romain Tartire?

Yes, there is problem with port versioning... but it's not like it can't be fixed.

So what are we waiting for?

 Hi Aldis,

I'm sorry that I wait that long to answer to this PR, I just didn't know
what to do exactly with this issue. Now I have searched on mailing list
and still there are some pieces of information that I couldn't find.
First of all, was there any serious discussion about using TeXLive in
ports? If not, why not just starting it on ports@? If so, what was the
result? Is there any serious issue that has to be resolved before? What
are those? Or just lack of testers, committers, etc.? Could you please
clarify this? I would be more than happy to mark this port DEPRECATED
because in fact, it is really really outdated.

 Gabor

State-Changed-Why:
Close this PR since at the moment I cannot do too much for this.
There is an ongoing work on the TexLive port by other developers
and when that work is ready, I will be happy to kill this port.
