>Description:
When playing mp3 files with xbmc-10.1_1 the playback suddently stops.
- If I press pause and then play the playback continues for a little while and stops again.
- If I instead press stop xbmc just hangs and I have to kill it.

When the playback stops the following error can be found in in ~/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log:
WARNING: CALSADirectSound::GetSpace - get space failed. err: -32 (Broken pipe)
WARNING: Previous line repeats 460003 times.

The number of repeats gets higher the longer I wait before I pause and unpause playback.

I have this problem both on my normal workstation and on my mediacenter, same version of xbmc and same version of freebsd on both.

Movie playback works fine.
>How-To-Repeat:
Play an mp3 file in xbmc, it stops playing in less than one minute.
>Fix:
Not sure.

 Looks like the problem also affects Linux because I found that forum
 thread:
 http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=38020

 Does removing pluseaudio help?

 I saw that thread as well but removing pulseaudio does not help.
 I have been in contact with the XBMC maintainer and he believes
 it might be a problem with FreeBSDs ALSA emulation. I will try to
 bring this issue up on the multimedia@ list.

 A possible workaround for that issue would be to edit
 /usr/local/share/xbmc/system/playercorefactory.xml and add a rule to force
 xbmc to use the same (working) backend for the audio files and the video files :

 <rule name="audiohack" audio="true" player="DVDPlayer" />

 You don't have to change playercorefactory.xml to use the DVDPlayer
 instead of PAPlayer.  Instead create
 /usr/home/<user_name>/.xbmc/userdata/advancedsettings.xml with the following

 <advancedsettings>
 <audio>
 <defaultplayer>dvdplayer</defaultplayer>
 </audio>
 </advancedsettings>

 Note: DVDPlayer does not support replaygain.

 I've been using XBMC on FreeBSD (on multiple systems) for over a year
 now and have always had a problem with the PAPlayer with both mp3 and
 flac audio files. Does the PAPlayer work for anyone?

 Thanks! That did the trick. This solves my problem
 and thus the PR can be closed from my perspective,
 but DVDPlayer should really be the default, no ?
 Personally I don't think PAPlayer is working for anyone.

 Thanks again,

 This should still be an open issue.

 DVDPlayer should not be the default audio player per the xbmc
 documentation. It lacks many features (like replaygain support) that a
 good audio player should have.

 If anyone is able to successfully use PAPlayer with xbmc on FreeBSD
 please contact me. I want to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

 Thanks,

 Rory

 multimedia/xbmc has just been updated to 11.0b1 where this problem
 should be fixed
