 I'll add to this that this failure didn't occur until after the recent
 gnome updates. I have rebuilt gramps and every port listed as a
 requirement for gramps, but to no avail. Still get the error message
 indicated in the original PR.

 gramps now starts but fails to read preexisting databases and will not
 import standard format gedcom files. A quick'n'dirty test shows it
 allows manual data input, creates a new database and will re-read that
 database on restart, but the failure to read databases that existed and
 were in use before the upgrade from 3.1.x to 3.2.x, as well as it's
 inability to import standard gedcom files is a major problem for this
 type of application. This should probably be a new PR, but ..?

 Thanks for your efforts.

preexisting database? And when you trying to import files in gedcom format.

And make sure that you follow pkg-message instructions:

===
GRAMPS needs py-bsddb to be compiled with:

WITH_BERKELEYDB=db43
WITH_BDB_VER=43

You can do like this to make that happen:

echo "WITH_BERKELEYDB=db43" >> /etc/make.conf
echo "WITH_BDB_VER=43" >> /etc/make.conf
cd /usr/ports/databases/py-bsddb
make clean all deinstall reinstall clean
===

I didn't work for me until i rebuild py-bsddb with bdb43.

 This is what I see when I try to import a gedcom file
 into gramps. The process followed is:

 1) create a new family tree by clicking on
 Famly Trees -> Manage Family Trees and selecting "New"
 from the options on the right of the screen, then selecting
 "Load Family Tree" when it has been created.
 2) Family Trees -> Import, then selecting a gedcom file to
 attempt to import.

 Error is as below.

 I had already rebuilt py-bsdbb to 4.3 as part of my flailing
 at the problem. Existing databases/family trees do not reliably
 or consistently load. I can't presently provide an error message,
 but will do so the next time the error occurs.

 I can reproduce it on 3.2.3. I've created new family tree. Create one
 person. Then export it into GEDCOM format. Then i've deleted family
 tree, create new family tree and when trying to import got the crash you
 described. So it seems like a mainstream bug to me. I'll try to mess
 with it some time and then file the bug report in gramps tracker.

 I was able to import ged file by compiling py-bsddb with db47.
 Install /usr/ports/databases/db47
 add
 WITH_BERKELEYDB=db47
 WITH_BDB_VER=47
 and reinstall /usr/ports/databases/py-bsddb

 Hi,

 there hasn't been an update to this PR [1] for quite a while. Is there
 still something to be done, or can this PR be closed?
