i486 PCI board (ASUS) with AMD 133MHz processor
48 MB RAM
generic NCR 810 SCSI controller (ASUS and some no-name)

19980925 installation disk boot.flp crashes while probing ncr controller
The crash smells really bad including hitting on CMOS and leaving the
console full of dinosaur droppings (i.e. something writing into its memory).

>How-To-Repeat:

boot boot.flp on this machine

>Fix:

use 2.2.7 release or
replace NCR by Adaptec 8-)
