>Description:
After a test page is sent, the print heads will then begin to bang
loudly as if they are being forced beyond a physical limit by the print drivers, the banging continues untill the printer is
disconnected or shut off. This also occurs under FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE and FreeBSD 4.10-RELEASE, I don't know if this occurs on other versions of FreeBSD or on other BSD flavors. Under GNU/Linux with the same software installed the printer prints fine with the exception of some print modes not being supported. I saved a 1.0MB copy of /var/log/cups/error_log, if needed I can post it, but it is quite long. Also this problem can be duplicated when using lpr and apsfilter (configured to use the gimp-print drivers), so the gimp-print, ghostscript-gnu, and espgs ports might be responsible. Configuring cups to use /dev/unlpt0 instead of /dev/ulpt0 makes no difference.

Here is the list of software used and additional configure arguments.
cups-1.1.19.0
cups-base-1.1.19.0
cups-lpr-1.1.19.0
cups-pstoraster-7.07 CONFIGURE_ARGS= --without-x --without-ijs --with-gimp-print --with-gs=espgs
gimp-print-4.2.5_1 CONFIGURE_ARGS= --with-gimp=no --with-cups=yes --with-translated-ppds --with-ghost --enable-debug
ghostscript-gnu-7.07 CONFIGURE_ARGS= --with-gimp-print
espgs-7.05.6 CONFIGURE_ARGS= --enable-cups --with-drivers=LEXMARK --with-gimp-print

No optimization flags were added.
>How-To-Repeat:
The problem occurs every time a job is sent to the printer.

Problem also occurs on FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE.
