When I install Free BSD from cdrom, I cannot enter graphical mode to configure XFree86. I can in text mode, however.
Unfortunately, I still cannot "startx" after install. I continually get the error messages- "(EE) screen(s) found but cannot use" - "cannot connect to X server"-etc.
Please Help!! I'm beginning to think that the media is corrupt. That stinks! I just bought this software from CompUSA.

This is hardly a FreeBSD per se problem, but an X configuration problem.
99.9 there is no problem with you media.

 You should:
 - read Chapter 5 The X Window System from the FreeBSD Handbook
 - check the docs on the xfree86.org site.
 - ask on questions@freebsd.org * providing details * (X config file and
error log + hardware details) as no one could guess what hardware and
 setting you have.

As Ion-Mihai Tetcu noted this does not sound like a FreeBSD bug, but
rather a problem configuring XFree86 correctly and should be addressed
to the questions mailing list.

 Hello,

This problem has been reported before and I have read about it even in
reviews of FreeBSD. The symptom is exactly what you describe: graphical
X configuration from sysinstall does not work during install, text mode
does. After the installation, I think both modes work.

This may have improved in more recent versions of FreeBSD (current is
5.2.1) but I am not sure...
