Yes, Peter, you are right. 

I changed some BIOS parameters (sorry, don't remember, which one, I tried 
'til it worked ...). 

Now, I have SCSI-1 devices on the 1542 and SCSI-2 devices on the 2842. 

Everything works fine, even the tape drive.
