You might also want to try 4.6.2-Release. 
Also you mention wd0 as disk please make sure 
that you are actually using ad0.

 I have got the same problem on 4.4-RELEASE floppies (I tried also 5.0-REL=
 EASE,=20
 4.8-R., 4.5-R. - the same there)
