I have the Gnome window config'd, when I start it, the screen is too large for the display, I'm only getting 1/4 to the window displayed, I can't figure out, how to reduce it to fix my 17" screen.

 You are probably using a "virtual desktop" larger than the resolution of
 your X11 display.  If this is the case, then this is not a bug but a known
 feature of X11.  You should edit your XF86Config file to remove the
 "virtual" desktop settings.
