>Description:
After downloading [ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-i386/8.2/FreeBSD-8.2-RELEASE-i386-dvd1.iso.xz],
I am unable to open the image with WinRAR or burn the installation DVD
with Nero9. This is contrary to the 8.1 release which works fine with
these two applications. Please post a repaired image and/or advise which
Windows applications can be used to make the DVD.
>How-To-Repeat:
Download with Windows Internet Explorer. Try to make the DVD on a Windows
XP machine with WinRAR and/or Nero9.
>Fix:
Repair corrupt image and repost.

DVD images for the previous release were compressed with gzip. In an
attempt to save disk space and network traffic, they are now
compressed with xz, which uses lzma compression. I don't know what
problem(s) you experienced, because you didn't provide specific
information, but I think that you are having trouble because WinRAR
(according to the description at the WInRAR homepage) doesn't support
xz-compressed files. Try using one of the following instead:

 xzutils:
 http://tukaani.org/xz/
 (Windows binaries:
 http://tukaani.org/xz/xz-5.0.1-windows.zip )

 or

 peazip:
 http://www.peazip.org/

(These are not the only packages that will do the job, of course:
there are others.) After decompressing the dvd image, you should be
able to burn it to optical media as before with your favorite burning
program -- Nero, or, for example, a Windows binary package of
 cdrtools:
