>Description:

I am attempting to install FreeBSD 2.1.5 from CD-ROM.

When I get to the part in the installation where it asks to choose an
installation media, I choose "1 - CDROM" , and it comes back with "no
	CD-ROM devices found".

I have a Mistumi CD-ROM drive (ISA), and this same CD-ROM drive worked just
fine when installing FreeBSD 2.1 from CD-ROM a few weeks ago.

	Please help. Thank you.

Unfortunately, this does not give me anywhere near enough information
to help you. What model of Mitsumi? How's it hooked up?

It is a Mitsumi internal CD-ROM drive model FX001D, double speed; with an ISA
interface card; using I/O port address 0x300 (default), IRQ 10 (default), and
DRQ 5 (default) (although FreeBSD does not seem to reference the DRQ).

The CD-ROM is found during the probe:

 	mcd0: type Mitsumi FX001D, version info: D 2
 	mcd0 at 0x300-0x303 irq 10 on isa

The CD-ROM disc is in the drive before the boot-up is started.

This same drive and hardware configuration worked just fine when
installing FreeBSD 2.1 from the Walnut Creek CD-ROM. I have made no
 hardware changes since then.

Any help is greatly appreciates; I am eager to come up on 2.1.5.

 Thank you.

 - Bill.

I can only conclude that the Mitsumi driver was broken in 2.1.5 then.
I'm afraid there's nothing we can do in the short-term, and perhaps
not even in the long term unless one of these rather ancient Mitsumi
drives can be located and the bug found. :-(

Well, I am not sure about that either. In 2.1, although the original full
installation worked flawlessly, when I would go back to install additional
components (via /stand/sysinstall), sometimes I would get the same "no CD-ROM
devices found" message, eventhough I was always able to mount /cdrom every
 time without a hitch.

Seems as if there's some kind of bug in /stand/sysinstall that, at least in
2.1, used to show up here and there, but never in the initial full install,
and which seems to be showing up in the full installation under 2.1.5.

So, am I basically out of luck? (although another word comes to mind).

 Thanks.

 - Bill.

I'm afraid so - I see nothing in sysinstall which has changed, and if
/dev/mcd0a no longer works then sysinstall just isn't going to see it.
For what it's worth, those drives were incredibly slow, are totally
obsolete and perhaps this is a good reason for an upgrade. :)

I believe this was the result of a broken Mitsumi driver in 2.1.5
which has since been fixed.
