>Environment:

BIOS: Phoenix Award BIOS, v 6.00 PG
Board: Supermicro P8SCT BIOS 1.0 (displayed during boot)

System is connected via bge0 to a cisco-2950 switch.

Similar case with a Shuttle B52G barebone when connected
via the fxp0 port of the Shuttle. em0 of the Shuttle port
worked.

>Description:

System hangs during boot after or during loading the kernel from disk
and before displaying the "Options Menue", where one is
asked for "boot without ACPI" etc. when the system is connected to the
ethernet during bootup.

We experimented with ACPI disabling in the BIOS setup
or with disabling USB in the BIOS setup.

>How-To-Repeat:

Boot the system while ethernet connection to a cisco-2950 is
plugged in. In approx. 15-30% of the cases the
system will hang after or during reading the kernel from the harddisk.

>Fix:

Work-Around:
- simple: unplug the powercord, plug the power back in, reboot
does not always work around the problem
- complex: unplug the powercord, unplug the ethernet (!), wait a few seconds,
plug the power back in, reboot
