>Description:
              bridge is broken either way with device bridge or if_bridge

if_bridge crashes OS soon any traffic tries to go through or to bridge

using device bridge I do not get to the upper network either, nothing goes theough the "bridge?"

please do not ask, gateway is enabled and any relevant sysctls too

I am using two ath or ath/wi or ath/xl, either way beeing ath0 the trunk interface connected to the upper network and tried wi0 but no chenge

on 5.4R it works fine with exactly the same HW using "device bridge" what means for me that used interfaces are capable of running promisc mode

probably I am not very helpfull but there is no log at all even if the bitch reboots

 Hi,

 I am looking into this and could do with a bit more info. Can you send
 me the full output from 'ifconfig' when if_bridge is configured, and
 also get the backtrace when the system panics.

 http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/developers-handbook/kerneldebug.html

 thanks,
 Andrew

 I do not get a kernel dump, the machine freeze and after some seconds it=20
 reboots
 on either kernel bridge option no traffic goes through, I have the exactly=
 =20
 same configuration running on 5.4-R as bridge of course, not if_bridge,
 if there is anything else to help you please tell me

 I see that ath0 is a wireless client. You can not bridge on the client
 side of a 802.11 connection has the AP will only respond to the MAC of
 the wireless card.

 This thread may help to expain it.

 http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/htdig/freebsd-current/2005-October/056927.html

 Does any traffic bridge between ath1 and xl0? it should.

 Andrew

 interesting, makes sense. thing is that I have it running on 5.4R with the=
 =20
 difference that the ath0 is an adhoc client, not an ap-client, and it works=
 =20
 fine, look belove the ifconfig output
 I will set up this with 6.0 to check.

 Hi,

 Can you please try on the latest RELENG_6? There have been a few fixes
 go in since your last email.

 Hi
 this is the first part confirming that if_bridge is working as AccessPoint =
 but=20
 still it is an eth card as trunk interface not a WL Interface, this I will =
 do=20
 next.=20

 I can not add STP to the trunk interface, then it stays blocking and no=20
 traffic goes through:

 Can you please confirm that or am I doing something wrong?

 And soon I do not add STP to it, then it works fine, the ifconfig of ath0 a=
 nd=20
 vr0 is the same so only the bridge part:

 bridge0: flags=3D8043<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
         ether ac:de:48:4a:a9:1d
         priority 32768 hellotime 2 fwddelay 15 maxage 20

                 port 1 priority 128 path cost 55 forwarding
         member: vr0 flags=3D3<LEARNING,DISCOVER>

 As observation, it might be usefull to state more clearly in the man page t=
 he=20
 each ifconfig addm needs the "up" otherwise the members stay disabled

 =A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0member: vr0 flags=3D7<LEARNING,DISCOVER,STP>
 =A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0port 2 priority 128 path cost 55 di=
 sabled

 so if you have nothing to add/correct here I move forward to use a WL card =
 as=20
 trunk/uplink

 thank's

 GREAT WORK!

 works :)

 the machine is one ath card in hostap and a second in client/station mode=20
 conected to another machine to the WL-Card in hostap. So the "repeater"=20
 function worls on 6.1-R on i386 and amd64

 thanks!

State-Changed-By: thompsa
State-Changed-When: Mon May 15 06:43:32 UTC 2006
State-Changed-Why:
The submitter reports that it is now working as of 6.1R. I couldnt
reproduce it so it may have been a fix in if_bridge or net80211.
Thanks for the PR.
