>Description:
FreeBSD 5.3-BETA6 loads the snd_maestro driver however you get no playback on the machine.

pciconf says:
none4@pci0:12:0:        class=0x040100 card=0x00011179 chip=0x1978125d rev=0x10 hdr=0x00
    vendor   = 'ESS Technology'
    device   = 'ES1978 Maestro-2E Audiodrive, ES1970 Canyon3D'
    class    = multimedia
    subclass = audio

then cat /dev/sndstat:
pcm0: <ESS Technology Maestro-2E> at I/O port 0xee00 irq 11 kld snd_maestro (4p/0r/0v channels duplex default)

Just for the record this is a Toshiba Portege7020CT.

Recording interface seems to load, just no playback.

I have searched the forums and noticed it worked last in 5.1.
>How-To-Repeat:
I have installed both 5.2.1, then 5.3-Beta6 because I noticed in the 5.3-Beta release notes it says fixes for the Maestro card are included. However, after testing they don't work with any release newer than 5.1.
>Fix:
Seems to either go to 4.x or 5.1.

 kern/72220 seems to be a duplicate of kern/63204.
