As recently posted on freebsd-current, with subject 'PPTP VPN using MPD behind NAT help needed'. NATD does not seem to work when trying to estabilish a remote PPTP VPN connection. This is regardless of the 'redirect_proto' passed to natd. All detailed information can be found in the mailing list email. Have switched to PF nat since, and VPN connections resumed to work.

Attempt to estabish a PPTP VPN connection to any server, via freebsd natd.

I am sorry. The subject is actually 'NATD no longer works for outgoing
 PPTP VPN?
' and can be found using URL
 'http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=34750+42263+/usr/local/www/db/text/2004/freebsd-net/20040725.freebsd-net'

 Thanks.

Excuse me, but whether should it work ?
Whether VPN's exist to provide secure access to all network behind a
vpn-gateway or i am in a big mistake?
How you can establish a connection with specific host if it is behind a NAT.

I think we both have to reread some books about VPNs :)

 Hi Mike.

I was also having this problem. After fiddling around for a few hours I
gave up and got an older version of natd from the June 25th snapshot at
 ftp://current.freebsd.org

It was the first one I tried and it worked.
(I also got that same snapshots copy of libalias, in case it matters.
Don't think it does unless you plan on compiling natd again before it's
 really fixed...)

I have switched to PF since, and i dont think i will ever go back. It
works great. Looks like nobody cares about this problem.

Is this still a problem with recent versions of FreeBSD?

Original submitter no longer uses the code; followup submitter notes
no current problems, so probably it is safe to close this aging PR.
