4x wi0 compliant cards, with known functional/reliable firmware. The issue is observed with Senao and WMP11 cards.

wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary 1.01.01, Station 1.05.06
wi1: Intersil Firmware: Primary 1.01.01, Station 1.05.06
wi2: Intersil Firmware: Primary 1.01.01, Station 1.05.06
wi3: Intersil Firmware: Primary 1.01.01, Station 1.05.06

>Description:

wi0 and wi2 are both in client mode. ifconfig gives:

wi0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        inet 172.16.0.98 netmask 0xfffffffc broadcast 172.16.0.99
        ether 00:06:25:a7:a9:42
media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (DS/2Mbps)
        status: no carrier
        ssid il-nw.cetim2.wleiden.net 1:il-nw.cetim2.wleiden.net
        stationname 2cetim.Rabo0.wLeiden.NET
channel 0 authmode OPEN powersavemode OFF powersavesleep 100
        wepmode OFF weptxkey 1
wi2: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        inet 172.19.137.1 netmask 0xffffffc0 broadcast 172.19.137.63
        inet 172.16.0.101 netmask 0xfffffffc broadcast 172.16.0.103
        ether 00:02:6f:03:0b:1b
media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (DS/11Mbps)
        status: no carrier
        ssid n-o.unigor.wleiden.net 1:n-o.unigor.wleiden.net
        stationname west.Rabo2.wLeiden.NET
channel 1 authmode OPEN powersavemode OFF powersavesleep 100
        wepmode OFF weptxkey 1

Note that the status is 'no carrier'. However wi2 is actually associated; as wicontrol -i wi2 confirms (or a quick ping to the the other side)

CNodeRabo# wicontrol -i wi2

>How-To-Repeat:

Unclear exactly what triggers this. It is seen on
a range of machines; with a range of card firmware's
and not always on, say wi2 or wi4. It has been seen
on machines with 3, 4 and 5 wiX cards. And does not
seem to be wi card vendor specific.

>Fix:

Ignore ifconfig and rely on wicontrol
