System: FreeBSD adsharma-mob3 5.0-DP1 FreeBSD 5.0-DP1 #0: Sun Apr 7 02:51:42 GMT 2002 murray@builder.freebsdmall.com:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/GENERIC i386

This system works with 5.0-DP1, but DP2 and RC1 both hang during
the installation. I've done "unset acpi_load", so ACPI no longer
seems to be an issue.

Specifically, the installation hangs just before the line starting with orm0.

I have narrowed this problem down to the eisa bus probe/attach routine.
If I unconfigure the eisa bus from the config file, 5.0 boots just fine.

Please let me know if you need any additional information to fix the
 problem.

Actually, a simpler workaround is to set:

 hw.eisa_slots=0

in the boot loader. This machine also requires:

 unset acpi_load

 in order to boot.

This bug is still present on the install floppy set for 5.1-BETA and
 5.1-BETA2.

5.1-RELEASE has the same issue. Haven't tried -current.

Please make sure you're using the latest BIOS and give it a try with 5.1R.

Please add some printfs to eisa_probe() to get an idea how far the probe
gets before it hangs. The file is /sys/dev/eisa/eisaconf.c

Have you been able to insert the printfs for eisa_probe to track this
 down?

Not yet. But I'll give it a shot as soon as I'm back from vacation
 (12/21).

I just tried 5.2-RC2 and the problem is no longer reproducible.
