>Release: 2.2.1-RELEASE
>Organization:
Hughes Software Systems
>Environment:
FreeBSD 2.2.1-RELEASE on i386
>Description:
Using Intel Ether-express card (ix0) on a 386 machine. ifconfig
on the ix0 device causes a kernel panic (illegal page fault).

The same card on a 486 PC works fine. Although there are problems
with initial probes - which mistake it for mcd0 or wt0.
>How-To-Repeat:
Put in an Etherexpress (ix0) on a 386 PC - do
        ifconfig ix0 inet 139.85.242.85 netmask 0xffffff00

Kernel panic results - with an illegal page fault.
(while in kernel mode).

have you tried with a newer 2.2-xxx-RELENG snap?? they have merged
the ix0 driver into the ie0 driver.. please write back on your
experience with the newer RELENG branch.. something like using the
 fixit floppy would work too...

also, make sure that all non-existant drivers are removed from the boot
up.. one of the other probes might be messing with the state of the
 card...

Using ie0 in 2.2.6-BETA works perfectly. Please close this PR.
