 taking your second test with a newer 5.x into consideration it is very
 likely to work now.  There have been many fixes to the amr driver which
 have fixed these things for others.
 
 I'm going to close this PR as it is too old to be directly relevant.
 If your testing in Feb 2004 shows some (new) problem please open a
 new PR with all relevant information.
