>Environment:
System: FreeBSD skerry 4.7-RC FreeBSD 4.7-RC #2: Mon Sep 23 20:57:18 BST 2002 pete@skerry:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/SKERRY i386

Compaq Deskpro EN 866MHz. Booting from Adaptec 2940UW, with Compaq
	4200 RAID Controller attached.

>Description:

The RAID controller has two logical drives - 1 and 2 attached. If
drive 1 is removed using the Compaq tools under Windows, then the
remaining drive is still allocated as "logical drive 2" by the
RAID controller, as these numbers are allocated to the logical
drives at creation time. Under FreeBSD, however, the idad driver no
longer recognises logical drive 2 - apparently because there is no
logical drive 1. The reverse is not true - you can remove logical
2 and FreeBSD will still find logical drive 1.

>How-To-Repeat:

Remove logical drive 1 from a RAID configuration containing two
logical drives. Observe that the driver does not find the remaining
	logical drive.

Note that I dont have enough drives to see what happens if you have,
folr example, logicals 1,2 and 3 - and remove 2.

>Fix:

Dont try and remove the first drive from a RAID array configuration.
This is not much of a workaround, and the only other solution seems
to be backing up all the data and recreating all the arrays from
scratch (unless there is some way to reassign the logical drive numbers
	given by Compaq)
