 I'm bumping up against the same problem, currently at 640 stale 
 connections, and growing every day with about 60.

This is apparently a followup to an existing PR.  It doesn't contain 
enough information for tracking the relevant PR down though. 

To the originator: Wen you are replying to an existing PR, please use 
a Subject: header of the form: 

Subject: Re: category/number: original subject 

where category/number is the category of the original PR, followed by 
a single '/' character, then the number of thePR and then a `:' 
character and a space.  For example: 

Subject: Re: docs/2525: update my email address in the handbook 

is a valid subject for a followup to PR docs/2525 :-)
