>Release: 4.6.2-RELEASE
>Organization:
Open Source Group
>Environment:
FreeBSD 4.6.2-RELEASE #0
>Description:
My 4.6.2-RELEASE kernel was compiled from the GENERIC template (as was the 4.5-RELEASE kernel). Since updating to 4.6.2-RELEASE from 4.5-RELEASE, I can no longer backup my data to tape. Here is my output from dmesg:

ast0: TAPE <Seagate STT20000A> at ata1-master PIO4

If I issue any mt commands to /dev/ast0, it hangs the process and cannot be killed, even with kill -9. I can issue a mt -f /dev/nast0 status, however, and it reports the proper information without hanging the process. If I try to dump to /dev/nast0, it hangs the process when it tries to close the device after dumping. This is a serious problem as I can no longer backup my production data to tape.
>How-To-Repeat:
Use the mt command on /dev/ast0 or /dev/nast0 with the 4.6.2-RELEASE kernel.
