I've got a Shuttle Spacewalker AK31v3 and also hear noise and 
static when playing any mp3 or other audio files. This even happens 
under Linux. So it appears the Shuttle Board is the culprit. 
Can you verify if this happens with another OS as well?

 Works perfectly fine in both windows and linux for me so I figure it 
 must be the FreeBSD driver.
