>Description:
noise or static can be heard in the sound produced by my built-in CMedia CMI8738 on my iwill KK266 box, the noise did not occur before 4.6.
i have heard the static on headphones and some stereo speakers, so i am confident that the problem does not lie in the speakers.
i have tried playing with the mixer settings, and nothing seems to help get rid of the static, except of course turning the volume to zero ;).

pcm0 line from dmesg:

pcm0: <CMedia CMI8738> port 0xe000-0xe0ff irq 5 at device 15.0 on pci0

>How-To-Repeat:
play some music on an iwill KK266 box with CMedia CMI8738 sound running freebsd 4.6.

        Hi!

I can confirm that the problem in PR 40081 exist for Asus A7V333-Raid,Fw,Snd
motherboard aswell. And that the solution is the same.
That is get snd_pcm.ko _and_ snd_cmi.ko from freebsd 4.5, then execute:

 kldload /path/snd_pcm.ko
 kldload /path/snd_cmi.ko

Make sure it won't load snd stuff from /modules

              /Peter

Could you confirm if this is still an issue with recent 5-stable or
6-current? I just tested xmms on an mp3 I had with a CMI8378 card, and
 everything sounded fine.

My iwill board died about two years ago, so I am no longer able to
further invalidate/validate the issue. (was diomed at rhid)

If nobody else pipes up, I'd say close it out.
