 I just came across this PR from last year and it should have been assigned to 
 me or sound, but wasn't (just one of those things).  Can you confirm that this 
 problem does not exist today?  I'm pretty sure this is covered by the 
 re-writing of the VIA8233 driver that occurred because of the evident 
 variations in supported register sets on the VIA8233 revisions.

 I also get the same problem when I play sound in my laptop. My laptop use 830 
 motherboard chipset. here is some information. Hope it helps.
