when an hard work starts on my IDE-striping array, controled by HighPoint HPT370 chipset on an Abit KT7a raid, the system freeze randomly. The system installed on (sorry ;-) ), but, that doesn't change if not.

Is this still a problem that's causing you trouble? 
Have you tried installing one of the newer FreeBSD releases?
