>Environment:

Kernel patched to CTM#260, two machines, one a 66MHZ 486, the other
a 25MHZ 386sx. 486 uses IDE drives & SB16, 386sx uses SCSI with Buslogic 542B
controller & SB classic.

>Description:

auvoxware dumps core with a signal 10 at the end of playing a sound.
This happens frequently on the 386sx machine, a lot less frequently on the
486. Recompiling with debugging info and linking static does not reveal any
useful info - gdb complains that it cannot read a particular address. Xdm
will sometimes die with the same signal as it is restarting the X server,
just after someone has logged out, leaving the X server running but no xdm
process to put up a prompt. This does not happen with a kernel compiled on
December 21, prior to the merged buffer cache, nor did it happen when the
merged buffer/vm cache became relatively stable (CTM 256?, when a patch to
vfs_bio.c stopped it from crashing 2 minutes after boot.).

Please note that this problem seems to happen far more frequently and
reliably(?) on the slower machine, so I suspect that there is a window of
vulnerability that has been opened, and exists for a lot longer on the slower
machine.

>How-To-Repeat:

Find a slow machine (25MHz 386?) with a sound card and compile up
the nas software from the 2.0 CD. You'll also need the X stuff installed, as
nas uses some of the include files and the X11 library. Run auvoxware and
use auplay to play some sound files. At or towards the end of the sound
file, auvoxware will die.
