Acer 1410 laptop PC. Celeron SU2300 CPU + Mobile Intel GS45 chipset +
Insyde H20 ver. 0.3303 firmware.

I tried to install to either USB2.0-memory or USB2.0-harddrive, both were
detected as 'da0'.

Booting from DVD, sysinstall -> Standard or Custom -> Partition -> Label
-> Distribution -> Media done with no problem.

Immediately after "Commit", occurs "panic: page fault cpuid 1 xxxx"
(xxxx : sorry, but I missed.). Continues writing to disk. To abort, I
had to press the power button.

Unfortunately this provides no information we can use to diagnose the problem.
Could you try installing using an 8.1 install CD please? That kernel contains
a debugger so if the panic still occurs you'll be able to copy the stack trace
details. Unfortunately without the stack trace there's little we can do with
 the PR.
