My laptop is a Dell Latitude D630 running FreeBSD 7.2-STABLE amd64 as of 09/17/2009. It has 2 Gb of RAM as a base and I have an additional stick of 2Gb that can be plugged/unplugged.

When using 4 Gb of RAM, plugging a USB key instantly freezes the kernel, which eventually panics after some seconds (not sure if it does that all the time, I usually power off the laptop when it happens). This does not happen at all with only 2 Gb. This doesn't happen either with 8.0-RELEASE i386 with 4 Gb.

I've attach a full dmesg output for the kernel that panics with 4 Gb and for the 8.0-RELEASE kernel as a reference. There is also a debug session with kgdb showing the stack and some structures.

Please feel free to ask for more information / tests, but quite quickly since I plan to install 8.0-STABLE on this machine.

 Just in case it might help: the amount of memory (4 Gb) causes another problem 
 when starting X (ports/141660). Both PRs might be related.

The USB stack has changed signifigently since the 6 and 7 days. If this 
is still a bug please open a *new* PR and reference this one.  It is 
very likely that the bug has either been fixed or now manifests itself
