    jsa@mephisto.wickedmachine.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MEPHISTO

>Description:

r186240 breaks the disk mounting phases of boot on my machine. The disk
itself is detected, but no partitions are recognized.

The only "strange" thing about my setup is that the drives are
"Dangerously Dedicated" and I thus use the simple boot loader.

The MEPHISTO kernel is GENERIC with the extra debugging in head removed.

>How-To-Repeat:

Boot a kernel built with the GEOM_* changes in r186240 on i386.

>Fix:

Revert the sys/i386/conf/DEFAULTS GEOM_* changes, and build a new kernel.
All works as it did prior.

 Joseph,

 Can you dump the first 2 sectors of your disk and
 email it to me?

 Thanks,

 Okay, this has been resolved. For anyone else looking at this, this
 should be it in a nutshell.

 If you are running 8.0-CURRENT after r186240 and have disks formatted in
 DD mode, you need to change your fstab. Any disk you have that is DD
 will not have actual slice information. Prior to this change, the disks
 were treated has being sliced, which was an incorrect behavior.

 For each disk you have in DD mode, remove the `s1` from the stanza in
 /etc/fstab. So if you have one disk, it might go like this:

 ad0s1a -> ad0a for /
 ad0s1b -> ad0b for swap
 ad0s1d -> ad0d for /usr
 ad0s1e -> ad0e for /var
 ad0s1f -> ad0f for /home

 Thanks to marcel@ for helping me find and confirm this.
