On 5/16/2008 I updated the system via cvsup (7.0-STABLE), rebuilt and
installed a new kernel (GENERIC) and the problem is still the same. 

The system seems to operate fine when answer "n" to the panic question. 

Two CPUs show up and are being utilized.

 Remko - thanks for the quick response. Here's the first chunk of
 feedback: Verbose logging from the trouble maker. Again I answered
 obviously "n" at the panic-prompt. The weird memory figure comes from
 2GB minus 256MB for integrated graphics.

 Remko - since this morning I'm running 8.0-CURRENT on the same system.
 World and Kernel have been rebuilt - ports are still being updated.=20
 
 I'm afraid the situation is not any different than with 7.0-STABLE. Same
 panic still appears. I append the output from dmesg after a verbose boot
 below.=20
 
 If it helps at all: the amd64-7.0-LiveCD spits out a number of kernel
 traps right after acpi.ko is loaded. It ends up in a really bad shape
 and the system needs to be power-cycled. Also, Windows XP did not have
 any issues with the Acer, but then that's not what I want to run on it
 ;-)

 I did a bit more investigation in this area.=20
 
 The only place where the "AP #1 (PHY# 1) failed!" appears, is in=20

 Hi jh - unfortunately the system in question was gutted recently and I can't
 go back to test things again. Before I gutted it, I attempted to install
 pfsense, which is based on 8.1RC and saw the same misbehavior. I have a
 feeling if I tried it with the most recent RC of FreeBSD I would still see
 the same error.
